MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 9, 2002

Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary

President Julie called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m., at the Wild Huckleberry. (Secretary was late)

Julie presented a draft of a club brochure with goals, committees, and information. The board was pleasantly impressed.

Old Business:

The Rocking Chair - Milt reported that he had been in contact but not yet received a commitment for the plaque wording from the principles involved.

Progress on the "cupboard" - Well.... Don said he'd get it handled.

Right now the bell is safe in Julie's keeping, where no other hands can touch it. When we have a cupboard to lock, it will return.

Attendance - Linda has three weeks medical leave. Carol will get this handled and get a report in this week. (Someone else took the sign-up sheet)

Polio Plus - Our committee is doing a great job, first on the district to get report in. We are committed to raising $10,000 in next three years. $50 per year per person is suggested.

Make a Difference Day - 24 people signed up. Carol is working to get paint donated. Address is: 1020 Gary St., lady is Mickey Kellogg. We will probably begin about 8:30 a.m.

Craig - Milt will talk to him about a possible leave of absence. He seems to be 'up to his eyes in alligators' right now, and unable to participate.

Club Assembly - Oct. 29. Julie asked if anyone has started working with Committees. She passed out a "Committee report" form to be filled out, with What the committee has done so far this year, and what are plans and goals for the rest of the year.

Challenge Day - There seems to have been a mis-perception of what our commitment financially was going to be. We only have $1000 in discretionary funds, and we gave $950 of it to Challenge Day.

New Business:

Fund Raisers - In order to have more discretionary funds, and participate in the Community like we would like to be able to, we need to do some other fund raising.

Suggestions were: Grow a pumpkin patch, sell jack-o-lanterns, auction, non-event event, Not another vast project like the bike ride, nor a half-vast project, but something everyone could have fun with and participate in, without a lot of work, but to raise a thousand or more dollars.

Discussion was held on the problem of getting new members on a committee. Seems in some way the ball gets dropped. Sheri Tostad called Julie to say, "What can I do." New members want to get involved, it should be up to their sponsors to help them.

The thought was presented that we do not have a Sunshine Committee. We aren't always following up on people who are missed, or sick, we need to know what is happening in the lives of our people. This could be under the Fellowship Committee. Follow up needs to happen on habitual absentees.  The structure will be set up. It was suggested that the contact person for the "sunshine" committee be published consistently in the newsletter.

Rod reported that he is meeting with Walt Horan this evening for his orientation. Then he will be posted.

Meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Stueckle
