SUNRISE ROTARY BOARD
Minutes for the July, 2003 meeting
Meeting was called to order by president Milt Herman a few minutes after 7:00 a.m. at the Red Lion.
In attendance: Milt Herman, Julie Brunner, Kevin Love, Kris Pomianek, Brad Hauck, Bill McDowell, Sara Urdahl, Carol Stueckle, Bill McDowell, Alice Thompson, and Kathy Hamilton.
Minutes were approved as written.
Old Business:
Bernie Johnson has asked for a leave of absence due to his out of town work schedule, he will return in a few months. This was reluctantly accepted.
Rotary Park-- There is a meeting of the "park committee" this morning during our board meeting, led by Rich, president of the Wenatchee Rotary club. Steve King is representing us at that meeting.
We are desiring a new presentation to know more about the Park. Julie and Rich are working on details for a presentation that is up to date.
New Business:
President Milt reported that the new committee list is almost complete, Alice will update a spreadsheet and e-mail to members, and bring it to the next regular meeting so that we can make sure all members are on desired committees and all jobs are covered.
Our new club banner was discussed. Milt has requested from SilkScreen printers (who did the Bike Ride shirts) that they fine tune the picture for our new banners. The mock-up will be checked for approval when it is completed. They will also do a small version which can be put on the front of our new brochures for this year.
The board discussed our attendance, and formed a list of members who have been absent long enough to be dropped from membership. They include
Rich Benedict, Jess Montoya, Al Nease, Terry Thompson, Ardi Lowe, Laurie Knight, Barb Harris, Gene Cenotto, Lane Lasiter, and Steve Thuesen. Letter will be sent to these persons.
Kevin presented the board with a financial/budget report. We will be "sculpting the budget for this year with Kevin's 'good consultation and incantations.'
Bill McDowell brought up the idea of the "make-up" table. He will have something ready for next Tuesday which will provide an extra table for people to record and turn in make-ups, thus keeping the 'sign-in' line moving.
New member proposal - Pat Palmer was proposed for membership and unanimously passed board approval, of course.
Milt requested that secretary e-mail the minutes to the board for corrections or approval, and then it be sent to Jim Adamson for publication, so all members are aware of what is going on.
The board discussed working harder at getting new members to special functions of the board. This should be a responsibility of the sponsoring member. The turn out was good for the 4th of July weekend in the orchard.
A new fundraiser was discussed. Milt has visited with another club who has used the "Harley-Davidson Raffle" for several years with excellent success. He talked with out local dealer who would work with us. The Yakima Sunrise club puts the Harley on a trailer and travels the area selling tickets. Tickets sold have coupons attached (donated by local business ie: carwash) to give people something for their donation. He will do more research and make a presentation to the club, it's needs to be a club decision with all members participating. Kris Pomianek suggest this be a fundraiser geared toward a special project such as the 'park' or other project. Milt mentioned we still don't have our full pledge for the 'Eradicate polio" Project.
The Board discussed another possible project. "Beautify the Entrance to Our Town" could be a good one, also. Our name and a pretty spot when entering Wenatchee on the north end, instead of weeds, would be nice.
Milt mentioned that a Rotary Centennial project needed to be completed by February, 2005.
Kathy Hamilton came to get the Board's ideas concerning the new committee that she and Leonard Noss are chairing. It is the "Family of Rotary" committee, who will keep in touch with members, send out card of sympathy during illness, or times of grief, etc. Milt asked her to please come up with a proposal for the budget need, and a plan and ideas for the committee and report back to the Board.
This good first meeting of the new year was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Stueckle, Sec'y
