ROTARY BOARD MEETING
January 2004
Meeting was called to order by President Milt Herman, at 7:00 a.m. at the Red Lion.
Those present: Milt Herman, Sara Urdahl, Kris Pomianek, Rod Higley, Kevin Love, Carol Stueckle, Bill McDowell
Minutes were approved with one correction.
Budget was again discussed, and its approval was moved, seconded, and passed. It was decided that an upcoming expense of $100 a month for storage would be included in the Bike Ride Budget since most of the stuff stored is bike ride stuff.
Mark Anderson requested funds for coming GSE trip of $500 be approved. It was approved by common consent.
Kevin requested he might be given a budget committee to help him. The group discussed how to collect arrears dues, with possible reminders. The committee shall consist of the Treasurer, President, President-elect, and Vice President.
Bruce Hotel Project: Since the Grant we proposed was not funded, we need to come up with approximately $500 for materials. Some can come from discretionary funds, but could come from club members unable to volunteer their time for the project. Sara wrote a $100.00 check to seed the fund.
We need to get rid of the footed bathtub. How to sell it was discussed. Milt will check on value. It will require help moving it.
Club Service - Sara reported that the RI Council on Legislation is meeting. Every club has an opportunity for input.
Programs-The problem of programs that "commercialize" was brought up. Kris will contact her program committee regarding the possibility of making sure this is not done. Milt requests that we set aside the program for Feb. 17 as out anniversary party. That day will be our 18th birthday. Milt will contact Kathy and Leonard to see if they might be ready for some sort of presentation.
Membership - It is a concern that District is not receiving membership reports regularly. Carol will help Bryan with this chore. Individual sponsors will be asked to contact members who have been absent. Four absences not 'made-up' can constitute drop from membership. We do not wish to do that if possible.
Senior Dinner - Brad reports it is set for April 4. The committee is working on plans and entertainment. One suggestion for entertainment - That the 'theater', which would probably be nearly ready for the Apple Blossom Festival presentation, could do a scene for the seniors.
Century Ride - Sara read an e-mail message from Nancy at Wenatchee Valley Sports Council. She will try to re-direct Chelan club to do something else rather than a fund raiser which would compete with our Bike Ride.
Foundation - Marv asked Kevin to bring up the problem of the Foundation 'shortfall'. Could the club make this up? Then put extra funds into a fund for a Paul Harris Fellowship.
This brought up further discussion about collecting dues in arrears, especially if the member drops out of the club leaving unpaid dues. One suggestion: the sponsor contact member to find out how 'we can help'. It is a confidential matter and will be done by the newly formed Budget Committee. Sponsors will be responsible for attendance, not dues.
International Service - Rod reported that Madelyn is coming on Friday. Eric (her first "dad") will go to SeaTac to pick her up. We still need one more home for summer. The group discussed ways to get her involved with other Rotary kids. She will be at the meeting next Tuesday.
The idea of 'singing' at our meetings was brought up, and quickly vetoed.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully,
Carol Stueckle, Sec'y
