April 2004 Board Meeting Minutes

Present: Milt Herman, Kevin Love, Kris Pomianek Bill McDowell, Rod Higley, Len Noss, Joanne Rosenthal, Sara Urdahl
Guests: Dave Freimuth, Dave Whitmore

OLD BUSINESS

Youth Exchange

Milt briefly reported on the decision to send Maddy Ryan home to Australia, and alluded to a letter sent to him and to Erik Holmberg from her father.

The future (or lack thereof) of youth exchange was discussed, including some of Sara's ideas for a mentorship program directed at Challenge Scholars and local youth.

TREASURER'S REPORT

Kevin reported that we are under budget in several areas. Joanne expressed concern that the Chelan Rotary bike ride could impact our annual budget, creating the need for another fund raiers.

Milt asked about registration patterns, and Joanne described the history of registrations leading up to the day of the ride.

Further discussion about Chelan Rotary's response to Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary's letter of concern took place.

NEW MEMBERS

Jim Baxter, proposed by Sara Urdahl, has formally requested transfer from Wenatchee Rotary. Unanimously accepted.

Kelli Virnig, Red Lion Sales Manager, proposed by Jim Adamson, is active in Apple Blossom, the Chamber, and other community events. Dave Freimuth suggested that we ask Stephanie Kuntz first, since she holds a similar classification.

NEW BUSINESS

Apple Century Wine Society

Dave Whitmore passed out a proposal to create an Apple Century Wine Society to enable conduction of a wine raffle at the bike ride. Those who wish to become members could purchase an annual membership for $2 and three raffle tickets for $1 each.

Kris asked about the perception of alcohol at a club event, and club liability was briefly touched on. Having argued the negative, Kris went on to express liking for the unique aspect of the fund-raiser and its partnership potential with local wineries.

The board indicated support for the concept.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE

The District Conference takes place in Yakima in just two weeks. Milt plans to attend and bring the Rotary Club Banner quilt he had commissioned from a Quilting Society member. He suggested that the quilt be added to the District's silent auction for the Foundation and the board discussed ways that the club could share in the proceeds.
